Fall is fast approaching and along with the changes of the season, there will be many exciting changes happening at Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe & Mercantile!

When my mom, Jan opened the "Shoppe" nearly three years ago, I know she never imagined that we would grow so quickly. Back then...she simply wanted to create a place where she could get away to sew. After 20 years running her other business, this was to be the "outlet"...the "escape." She has always had a love for interior design and a huge love of fabrics...in fact, growing up I think two of her friends were Ethan and Allen! I didn't tell her this...but I knew in 2005, that whatever she was about to create wouldn't be a "quiet little escape."

We opened in September 2005 and I can remember how quiet we used to be. At the time, I can remember opening at 10am and not seeing our first customer until noon! Today it is a different story as more often than not someone is already waiting at the door...even before we have the lights up! I often joke that it is like our door is the gate to Disneyland, with Guests of all ages pressing their faces against the gates. There have been many mornings where I have arrived and noticed three to six women peering into our windows, leaving the smudges of their noses behind. And that's ok, because it shows you are enjoying yourselves!

So, even though my mom and I often get stuck doing the behind-the-scenes "stuff"... we continue to hear how excited you are to shop with us! It inspires us to know that you are inspired.
Just know this...that with every detail, with every bit of creativity, there have been joys and there have been sorrows. When we open up our new location later this fall, it is a reminder that sometimes our deepest struggles can lead us into our greatest dream!

New Block Of The Month Program To Debut In The Fall!

Jan has selected the fabrics for our next Block of The Month. While details are still being worked on, we can reveal a little "something" to taunt your fabric dreams! If you would like, you may place your name on the wait list now by sending us an email or calling the "Shoppe" at 503-607-0600. We will notify you when we are ready to begin enrolling! Space is limited. Since we will be moving, this program will probably start in November.

OUR NEW SHOP SPACE

I can't tell you how excited we are for the completion of our new space! Yes, we know it was supposed to be ready in the Spring, and then Summer...but sometimes things happen and you simply have to embrace the change.

As some of you know we have been planning this space since early this year. Below we have included a slide show of recent progress that continues daily. I think the most exciting feature is the grand entrance. As you enter our grand foyer, you will be greeted with a free floating wall covered in an elegant Toile. This wall (as seen in the pictures below) also contains a window. Jan is installing a beautiful chandelier from her own home that is to set the tone for the shop.

To accommodate all of our Guests, our register area will have two registers and three cutting stations. This should make the lines during our events go much faster! We also have two entrances to the shop so that our Guests with disabilities can enjoy easier access!

Because many of you have asked about parking...the parking situation is about the same as our current location. There is a parking garage beneath the building with open parking after 5pm. An elevator services the garage, the main floor and the upper floor where our new classroom will be located. And while we may have a classroom in the traditional sense, we have some different approaches that we will be looking at.

In addition we will have hardwood floors and much better lighting! When completed it will be the kind of shop where inspiration lives and creativity begins!

HOLLYHILL KITS!

As always we have created new kits for you to be inspired by! A few things to know about our kits:

*We price our kits as if you were selecting the fabrics yourself. Jan continues to provide great prices on everything in the shop and kits are no exception. All kits include fabrics to create the quilt top and binding in addition to the pattern. Some kits even include backing fabric.

* For kits that do not include backing fabric, a 15% discount is given on backing with purchase of a kit.

* All kits are attractively packaged.

Our new Blythe Memory Lane kit is beautiful and simple! And we love simple elegance! The fabrics are from the Anna Griffin collections, Blythe and Charlotte, and some of In The Beginnings Antique 1800's Collection.

Amy Butler's newest collection, Midwest Moderns has arrived and is currently in the "Shoppe." When we saw the Puzzle Play pattern we knew that this would be a great, yet simple way of showing off all of those Midwest Modern prints. But instead of just offering it in the warm pink tones, we also offered it in the cool blues.Check them out!

Looking for a smaller project for the holidays? These are just some of our newest kits with a holiday theme!

It's All About Christmas using Hoffman Fabrics. The Hoffman Christmas Collection is always a favorite here at Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe & Mercantile. The metallic etching on the fabrics brings a classic elegance to a traditional celebration!

Dear Santa from Clothworks. This kit is adorable and contains two projects a lap quilt and a pillow, or wall hanging...you get to choose! Please note that we added the Candy Cane border to create a whimsical feel!

Of course, you can't jump to Christmas without getting into a little Midnight Mischief, an adorable new kit from the Clothworks Midnight Mischief collection! Drape it on your front porch, or place it in your front window, this Halloween treat can be either a lap quilt or a wall hanging!

Exclusive Hollyhill Jelly Rolls!

There's something about a Jelly Roll. Moda of course was the first to introduce them and they have been a hit ever since! Since Jan usually purchases an entire collection of fabrics from various fabric companies, we have recently started to make Jelly Rolls out of other collections, which are then..exclusive to us!
